Congratulations to Dr Chris Bannon who has been awarded a £65,000 BMA Foundation grant to further develop his research into the role of the gut hormone INSL5, in patients with chronic diarrhoea.
The Kathleen Harper (2025) grant is awarded to medical practitioners or scientists developing their research careers or taking the first steps toward becoming independent researchers in the UK, to assist research into the treatment and management of incontinence.
Chris’ three-year project will explore what metabolic markers in stool are associated with high INSL5 levels, and further explore and validate if the drug ondansetron, can be used to manage symptoms in patients with bile acid diarrhoea (BAD) and those with IBS who have raised INSL5 levels.
The award will be officially presented at a ceremony at the end of October.
