Cambridge Metabolism is hosted within the Institute of Metabolic Science, and promotes metabolic research activities and events among the broad academic research community in Cambridge, including members of all six Schools of the University and key partner organisations including industry and other institutes in the region.
Our objectives are to:
- nurture an inter-disciplinary community of researchers
- support the development of new research
- co-ordinate activities in areas of importance to research in metabolism and
- facilitate translation of research to benefit current and future populations.
Cambridge Metabolism was originally launched in 2013 (as the Cambridge Metabolic Network) and funded through the University of Cambridge Strategic Research Initiatives and Networks initiative in order to build on areas of existing research strength by bringing together a critical mass of expertise from across the Schools and beyond. Joining Cambridge Metabolism is free and is open to Cambridge-based researchers, at any level of their career, with an interest in research relating to metabolism. We encourage everyone based in Cambridge and with an interest in metabolism to join us at events and are always open to new ideas from our members.
If you are interested in joining the mailing list, please complete the application form.
If you have any other enquiries, please contact Cambridge Metabolism Co-ordinator - Angela Lumsdon (aml95 at medschl.cam.ac.uk).
Metabolomics and lipidomics are becoming more relevant to many areas of science and across the Cambridge area, different groups are active in this field. In a collaboration between Cambridge Metabolism, the IMS-MRL MRC Mitochondrial Biology Unit and Babraham Institute, we want to bring together everybody in Cambridge who is working on, or interested in metabolomics and lipidomics. Our series of CaMeL talks cover the methods and approaches in metabolomics and lipidomics, followed by the opportunity to meet and chat more informally over refreshments.
The talks are open to everybody from students, scientists, technicians and technologists. With the enormous breadth of science topics in which metabolomics and lipidomics are used we want to focus the CaMeL talks on the technology, from sample prep, analysis, data processing and data analysis.
Organisers: Dr Albert Koulman (NIHR BRC Metabolomics and Lipidomics facility, IMS-MRL); Professor Mike Murphy (MRC Mitochondrial Biology Unit), Dr Sophie Trefely (Babraham Institute)
Next event - Thursday 23 January 2025, IMS-MRL Seminar Rooms, Level 4 ATC Building, Cambridge Biomedical Campus, 16.00 - 18.00 followed by refreshments
Speakers include:
Mark Cheong, Trefely lab (Babraham)
Filippos Michopoulos (AstraZeneca)
Dylan Ryan (MRC MBU)
