The IMS-MRL holds an annual retreat for staff and students. The format varies from year to year but usually includes presentations and social element. In recent years, alongside research talks we have enjoyed sessions from external University speakers on topics including open access, implicit bias, time management and engaging the public.
We gathered for a retreat, which included updates from our own admin and services staff, viewpoints from University and Biomedical campus services, an informative talk on pre-prints from Prof Alfonso Martinez-Arias and an amusing retrospective from Emeritus Prof Ken Siddle.

The Away Day took place, involving researchers from across the whole Institute of Metabolic Science. The day was packed with outstanding science, with research presentations and posters from students, postdocs and some of our more recent PIs. The student poster prizes went to Nick Heeley (PhD student supervised by Clemence Blouet and Mark Evans) and David Bulger (PhD student in Rob Semple’s lab), and the post doc poster prize was awarded to Jurai Rievaj from the Gribble/Reimann lab. A day of outstanding science with impressive presentations from PIs and posters from students and postdocs was followed by a drinks reception at the College.
