Though we are happy to work with you on a wide variety of projects, we do have some general guidelines that apply to all our work. Should any situation arise that is not covered by these guidelines, we reserve the right to decide how that situation should be handled.
Please send all new project proposals to firstname.lastname@example.org. We do our best to respond to all inquiries within 5 working days.
We offer two types of service: contract and collaboration. Contract work consists of short, standard projects and one-off analysis of data. If your proposal falls into this category, we will respond with an estimated quote and timeline for your analysis. Though we do our best to handle all analyses and projects promptly, we do have a limited capacity and may not be able to start work on your project immediately. If this is the case, then we will let you know in our estimate, so you can make an informed decision.
Collaborations involve longer, more complicated analyses where a member of the core makes a significant intellectual contribution to the project and the resultant manuscript. If we believe that your proposal may constitute a collaboration, then we will reach out to clarify all parties’ expectations.
Please note that contract work may evolve into a collaboration, but that we reserve the right to decide when this occurs.
Once the project has been agreed, we will work with you to find a secure way to transfer your data so that we can work with it. We will NEVER ask for credentials to any account to do this and ask that you DO NOT send us any credentials.
We are versed in a wide array of analyses and their tools. If there is a particular tool that you are interested in using on your data, please let us know in your initial proposal so that all parties are on the same page. If we feel your proposed tool is out-of-date with current best practices, then we will work with you to find a current tool that achieves the same aim. Though we are open to many tools, we DO NOT use tools requiring a commercial license, and DO NOT compare our results to results generated outside the Bio2 Core using licensed tools.
If you do not have a particular preference, then we will use whatever tools are currently considered best practice for your data type.
Our results package will always include a summary of the principal findings, access to necessary code, and any relevant plots and files. If there are any specific results or questions that you would like addressed, again please let us know in your initial proposal so that an understanding can be reached. Otherwise, we will return output files to you in the format considered best practice by the field.
We endeavour to make any included results as clear and actionable as possible. If you feel that any results do not meet the agreed-upon standard, then please reach out to us so we can help find a resolution agreeable to everyone; however, continued re-formatting of plots is NOT included with our analyses. If you need such services, please let us know so that we can offer you an appropriate quote.
We will always do our best to stick to the timeline we quoted to you; however, we do depend on a number of systems whose function is outside of our control (remote servers, etc.). Sometimes, these systems fail and may delay our work. If such a delay impacts our work on your project, then we will keep you abreast of any changes and work to minimise the impact.
We are always happy to give you a quick walkthrough of how we performed our analysis or how to run the pipeline locally (where feasible). However, our standard contracts DO NOT include full training on how to use the tools or to perform the analysis yourself.
