Wellcome PhD Programme for Clinicians
The Programme offers 8 fellowships per year funded by the Wellcome Trust, plus an additional 2 fellowships per year funded by the Wellcome Sanger Institute. Studentships cover the broad themes of genetic medicine, infection and immunity, neuroscience and mental health, structural and cell biology applied to medicine, cardiovascular medicine, developmental biology, and epidemiology, public health and primary care.
The programme includes mentoring by the Programme Director and appropriate scientific theme leads to develop careers of fellows. Students who do not hold academic clinical fellowships also have the opportunity to undertake research in different laboratories for up to 3 months to make an informed choice of project and supervisor.
Individuals who are interested in epidemiology, public health and primary care or in computational biology can be funded to undertake a taught MPhil prior to starting their PhD.
