WHO CAN APPLY?
We consider applications from eligible home and overseas students who already have or expect to obtain AT LEAST an upper second class honours or equivalent in any subject relevant to the programme, including, for example, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Physiology, Pharmacology, Population Sciences and related subjects.
HOW DO I APPLY?
If you would like to study for a PhD or MPhil at the IMS-MRL, please contact PIs whose work interests you to elicit support for your application. Applications not supported by an IMS-MRL PI will not be considered.
Applicants who wish to be considered for scholarships to cover stipend and fees for either a PhD or MPhil must submit an application using the University’s online Applicant Portal by the relevant deadline (see links below), as well as contacting individual supervisors. These scholarship schemes are highly competitive, with many more applicants than awards, and we cannot guarantee that any application will be successful.
For a definition of ‘overseas’ as applied to fee status and for instructions on how to apply including the application form, see graduate admissions.
WHEN SHOULD I APPLY?
Enquiries are welcome at any time, but most applications are considered during the period November to January for projects to commence the following October.
Applications are considered as they are received (rolling admission).
All students wishing to apply for funding should apply by the appropriated deadline for applications as given on the Graduate Admissions web site.
WHERE DO THE CAMBRIDGE COLLEGES FIT IN?
To study for any degree at Cambridge University you must be a member of one of the Cambridge Colleges. You apply for admission to a College at the same time as making a formal application to the University through the Applicant Portal. Colleges provide a variety of academic and social opportunities for graduate students, not least (in many cases) accommodation. Learn more about the role of Cambridge Colleges and find a list of colleges with their contact details.
WHEN WILL INTERVIEWS BE HELD?
Candidates who apply for funding from the Cambridge Trusts as part of their application will be shortlisted and notified by email in January. The majority of candidates based in the UK and EU will be asked to visit the institute for interview unless COVID19-related restrictions apply. Overseas candidates may be interviewed online.
CAN I EXPECT FEEDBACK ON MY APPLICATION?
Given the number of applications, we are unable to respond to requests for feedback on applications.
