Congratulations to Professor Roman Hovorka on being awarded the 2025 Manpei Suzuki International Prize for Diabetes Research in recognition of his pioneering contributions over the years to develop a glucose control algorithm for the closed-loop insulin delivery system and conducting clinical trials demonstrating safety and efficacy of the system, which has resulted in meaningful improvements in quality of life for people with type 1 diabetes and their families.
The award includes a Certificate of Honor, US$200,000 and a Japanese objet d’art on. The award ceremony will be held in Marc, 2026.
In a separate announcement, Dr Charlotte Boughton, formerly in the Hovorka group and now a Principal Investigator at the IMS-MRL herself, has been selected to deliver the RD Lawrence Lecture at the Diabetes UK Professionals conference in 2027!
Both great accolades for the excellent research in this field.
