Congratulations to Maša Josipović, PhD student from Mark Evans’ group, who is the joint recipient of the 2021 Bill Gates Senior Prize. The award, established in 2012, allows Gates Cambridge Scholars to recognise the impact and contribution of one of their peers.
Maša was nominated for exceptional research which explores the distribution, function and molecular signatories of neurons that have the ability to sense blood glucose and communicate with the periphery in order to maintain glucose homeostasis, for her response to the Covid pandemic including work with the NIHR Covid-19 BioResource Collaboration and for additional work including co-leadership of the Cambridge University Girls in STEM initiative.
Her nominator recognised Maša’s ‘outstanding intellectual ability…leadership and commitment to improving the lives of others’ and her ‘drive to leave a positive stamp on this world.’
This year’s prize was awarded jointly to Maša and to fellow Gates Scholar Emma Soneson.
