Working with colleagues from the Sanger Institute, a group led by Prof Sadaf Farooqi has identified four genes associated with severe childhood obesity. They also found an increased burden of rare structural variations in the DNA of severely obese children. These findings, which have the potential to identify future drug targets for treatment, are published in the journal Nature Genetics.
