This annual award, which is sponsored by the IMIBIC and the University of Cordoba, recognises a scientist of renowned international prestige in biomedicine. The award commemorates the figure of Maimonides, a medic and philosopher born in Cordoba in 1138. Maimonides is the best known and controversial medieval Jewish philosopher for his contribution to the rationalisation of Jewish theology from an Aristotelic perspective. He was also a prolific scientist, making important contributions to biomedicine and medical ethics. The award was presented by Isabel Ambrosio, Mayor of Cordoba.
